What exactly is a virus definition, and how do these get updated on the Identity Guard Device Secure app?
What is a Virus Definition?
A virus definition is a file that is downloaded by Identity Guard Device Secure to identify a computer virus. These files help enable detection of malware, spyware, ransomware, etc. by Identity Guard Device Secure when scanning.
How are Virus Definitions updated on my computer with Identity Guard Device Secure?
Identity Guard Device Secure automatically checks for updated virus definitions every four hours to ensure that the software continues to detect the latest electronic threats. Identity Guard Device Secure performs these updates silently so you never need to worry!
Can I manually push an update of virus definitions?
Yes! While we normally do not think it is necessary to manually check for updates, you can certainly check for updates via your system tray. The Check for Updates option will be silent and will also ensure your Identity Guard Device Secure App is up-to-date as well.
- Click on the UP arrow in your system tray which will be on the right-hand side of your screen.
- Right click on the Identity Guard Device Secure icon
- Click Check for Updates
That's it! No other action is necessary and the updates will be performed in the background so you can get back to work.
