Ae you getting sent to weird pages when you click new tab? Are you getting annoying pop-ups that are stopping you from doing your work? These can be quite a nuisance! Following these steps to you and your computer back to itself normal self.

1. Check Browser Extensions (see below)

2. Check Browser Homepages-Tabs-Search Engines (see below)

3. Check for Unwanted Programs (see below)

4. Clear Cache & Cookies

5. Turn on Pop-Up Blocker

6. Install Ad Blocker

Browser Extensions 

  Microsoft Edge

1. Open Microsoft Edge.
2. Click the icon in the top right of your browser that has 3 horizontal dots.
3. Click on Extensions at the very bottom.
4. Right-Click on any suspicious extensions and click Uninstall
5. When prompted, click OK to confirm uninstall. 

Mozilla Firefox

1. Open Mozilla Firefox
2. Enter this quick URL into the address bar: about:addons
3. On the left-hand side, click Extensions
4. Click Remove on any suspicious extensions
5. Restart Firefox. 

 Google Chrome

1. Open Google Chrome
2. Enter this quick URL into the address bar: chrome://extensions/
3. Click Remove on any suspicious extensions
4. Restart Chrome. 

Browser Homepages-Tabs-Search Engines

  Microsoft Edge

1. Open Microsoft Edge.
2. Click the icon in the top right of your browser that has 3 horizontal dots.
3. Click on Settings at the very bottom.
4. Ensure that Open Microsoft Edge with is either set to Start page, New tab page, Previous pages or something preferred by the user that doesn't look suspicious is selected. 
5. Next, head down to View Advanced Settings.
6. If Show the home button is enabled, ensure that either Start page, New tab page, or something preferred by the user that doesn't look suspicious is selected. 

Mozilla Firefox

1. Open Mozilla Firefox
2. Enter this quick URL into the address bar: about:preferences#home
3. Ensure that Homepage and new windows, and New tabs are set to Firefox Home, Blank page or something preferred by the user that doesn't look suspicious.
4. Next, head to the Search tab on the left-hand side. 
5. Under Default Search Engine and One-Click Search Engines, ensure that no suspicious search engines are installed or selected. If so, change and remove them. 
6. Restart Mozilla Firefox

 Google Chrome

1. Open Google Chrome
2. Enter this quick URL into the address bar: chrome://settings/searchEngines
3. Ensure that Google or another well-known search engine is set as the default. 
4. Remove any search engines that may be suspicious. 
5. On the main Settings page: chrome://settings/
6. Scroll down to On startup. 
7. Ensure that no suspicious pages are listed. If so, remove them. 
8. Restart Google Chrome. 

Check for Unwanted Programs

Windows

1. Open the Control Panel
2. Click on Uninstall a program or Programs & Features. 
3. Scroll through the list of programs and look for any programs that have suspicious names, publishers or are missing a logo icon. 
4. If you do find something suspicious, confirm with the user that they wish to have this removed and then click Uninstall.
