Your web browser may already be taking steps to keep you protected.
While most Internet users today know that it's important to install antivirus software, it's also important to know that there are simple settings in your web browser that will help to keep you safe as well. Updating these settings can ensure a safer, smoother browsing experience. Included below are a few settings in your browser you should consider adjusting.
Browser Settings
Mozilla Firefox
- Open your Mozilla Firefox browser.
- Click the icon in the top right of Firefox that has 3 horizontal lines.
- Next, select "Options" from the drop down menu.
- Then choose "Privacy & Security" on the left land column.
- Scroll down to the "Security" section.
- Ensure that the boxes in the security section are enabled.
- Restart Firefox by clicking the X in the top right and re-opening Firefox as you normally would.
Google Chrome
- Open your Google Chrome browser
- Click the icon in the top right of Chrome that looks like 3 vertical dots.
- Go to "Settings".
- Scroll all the way down and click "Advanced".
- Scroll down to the 5th option: Protect you and your device from dangerous sites
- Ensure that this option is enabled
- Restart Chrome by clicking the X in the top right/left and re-open Chrome as you normally would
Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge is windows built-in web browser (formerly called Internet Explorer). When Microsoft revamped its built-in browser (Internet Explorer) and created Microsoft Edge, they designed it so you do not need to adjust any settings to ensure your safety during internet browsing.
Safari
Apple's Safari browser does not require any changes in settings to ensure safe browsing.
